The fish cameras in Jonsered are now up and running. This means you can follow the fish passing through the Säveån River – wherever you are. The project is run by the energy companies in Partille and Lerum in collaboration with the University of Gothenburg and local stakeholders. The aim is both to gather new knowledge about fish migration and to make life below the surface more accessible to the public.
What's really going on under the surface in the Säveån River? Now you can find out. The cameras at the salmon ladder in Jonsered and the dam towards Aspen record short clips when fish pass by. Here you can follow everything from small roach to salmon and sea trout on their way through the river.
The cameras are also used to collect information about how many fish pass through and what species they are, providing better knowledge about fish migration and how life in the water changes over time.
It has long been known that around 100 salmon and the same number of sea trout migrate up through Jonsered every year. Together with Lerum Energi's cameras, it is now possible to follow the fish migration all the way from Jonsered up to Floda.
– Now everyone has the opportunity to follow the fish migration up close. It feels great to be able to open up a part of the Säveån that most people would never otherwise see, says Daniel Nilsson, marketing manager at Partille Energi.
