I’ve been charged an exit fee by my previous electricity supplier. What to do?

An exit fee is a fee you might be charged if you have changed electricity supplier before the end date of your old contract. The terms of your old contract regulate the length of your contract and may specify the notification period. If you terminate the contract before the end of the contract date or outside the notification period, you will be charged a fee. Do this: Contact your new electricity supplier. Cancel your new agreement until the old one has expired. Once an old contract or period of notice has come to an end, you can change electricity supplier without risking an extra fee.
